The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, is facing a difficult decision regarding the next stage of her son Prince George's education. A friend of the Middleton family has revealed that Kate is not a fan of single-sex schools, possibly due to her own negative experiences. The Duchess did not enjoy her time at Downe House, an all-girls boarding school in Berkshire, where she faced bullying during her teenage years. However, she thrived at Marlborough College, a co-educational boarding school in Wiltshire, and went on to excel academically and in sports at St Andrews University, where she met Prince William.
Recently, it was disclosed that Kate made a secret return visit to Marlborough College, her beloved alma mater. This visit has sparked speculation among parents that she may be considering sending Prince George there, especially since her siblings, Pippa and James, were also former students. Notable alumni of Marlborough College include Princess Eugenie, Samantha Cameron, and comedian Jack Whitehall.
Currently, Prince George, aged ten, is attending Lambrook prep school in Berkshire, where he is in Year 6. However, there have been sightings of him and his family exploring Eton College as a possible future option. While Prince William had a positive experience at Eton, Prince Harry, in his memoirs titled "Spare," expressed that it had been the wrong choice of school for him.
Both Eton College and Marlborough College have rigorous admissions processes. All applicants for Year 9 at Eton undergo an online pre-test in Year 6 before being selected for a second-stage assessment. Successful candidates are offered a conditional place pending an entrance exam in Year 8. Similar tests are conducted for Marlborough College applicants around the same time.
The decision of where to send Prince George for his secondary education remains undisclosed. A spokesman for Kensington Palace declined to comment on the matter.
The commitment that the Princess of Wales (Kate Middleton) has shown towards her children's education, such as her recent decision to stay at home to support Prince George during his school exams while Prince William attended the Earthshot Prize awards in Singapore, highlights the importance she places on providing them with the best possible educational opportunities.
As Prince George's future education hangs in the balance, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge face the challenging task of choosing the right path that will provide both academic and personal development for their eldest son.
