Toyota Recalling 1 Million Vehicles for Potential Air Bag Issue
ICARO Media Group
Toyota Motor Co. has announced a voluntary recall of 1 million vehicles due to a defect that could lead to non-deployment of airbags, posing a risk of injury to occupants. The recall affects various Toyota and Lexus models produced between 2020 and 2022.
The recalled Toyota vehicles include Avalons, Camrys, Highlanders, RAV4s, Siennas, Corollas, and selected hybrid versions of these models. The Lexus models affected by the recall include the ES250 sedan and the RX350 SUV, among others.
The defect lies in the sensors located in the front passenger seat, which may have been manufactured improperly. These sensors have the potential to short circuit, causing the airbag system to fail in accurately determining the occupant's weight. As a result, the airbags may not deploy as intended in certain types of accidents.
Toyota and Lexus dealerships will conduct inspections of the Occupant Classification System (OCS) sensors and replace them if necessary, at no cost to the vehicle owners. Toyota has advised that affected customers will be notified by mid-February 2024 regarding the recall status of their vehicles.
Owners who suspect their Toyota vehicles may be included in the recall can contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331 for additional information, while Lexus vehicle owners can reach out to 1-800-255-3987 for further details.
Safety is a top priority for both manufacturers and this recall demonstrates their commitment to addressing potential issues promptly. Toyota urges all affected owners to take the necessary steps to ensure their vehicles are inspected and any necessary repairs are made.
