This announcement comes ahead of the launches of the first Jeep and Dodge electric vehicles in the United States later this year.

The STLA Large platform, one of the four global EV platforms teased during Stellantis' EV Day 2021, boasts impressive capabilities. It offers a remarkable range of up to 500 miles, making it one of the most efficient platforms in its segment. Additionally, Stellantis claims that the power of the new platform will outperform any of the existing Hellcat V-8s, promising exceptional performance for the upcoming Jeep and Dodge EVs.

Stellantis introduced another EV platform, the STLA Medium, last summer, primarily catering to the C and D segment models. This platform targeted the heart of the market, accounting for nearly half of the 78.5 million EVs sold in 2022. With the STLA Large platform, Stellantis aims to power vehicles in the D and E segments, showcasing segment-leading capabilities in terms of charging efficiency, performance, and off-road capabilities.

The first Jeep and Dodge EVs will be followed by EVs from other Stellantis brands, including Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, and Maserati. Stellantis has ambitious plans to launch eight electric vehicles over the next two years, with the STLA Large platform playing a significant role as Jeep and Dodge initiate their EV offensive in the US market.

The STLA Large platform will offer battery pack options ranging from 85 to 118 kWh, enabling the sedans to achieve an impressive range of up to 500 miles. Stellantis also promises "extreme power" from the platform, surpassing the performance of existing Hellcat V-8 engines. Top models using this platform are expected to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in the 2-second range.

The STLA Large platform will come with both 400V and 800V options, with the latter enabling faster charging rates of up to 4.5 kWh per minute.

As Stellantis prepares to introduce its new EV platform, both Jeep and Dodge have already provided glimpses of their upcoming electric models. Jeep's first all-electric model in the US, the Wagoneer S, is set to hit the market this fall. With 600 horsepower and around 400 miles of range, the Wagoneer S promises lightning-fast performance. Following that, Jeep's rugged Recon model, inspired by the off-road Wrangler, will also make its debut, featuring unique options such as removable doors and windows.

Meanwhile, Dodge is gearing up to release the electric version of its iconic Charger later this year. A recent sighting near Chrysler's headquarters suggests that the electric Charger will retain the muscular influence of its gas-powered counterpart. Although official specifications are yet to be confirmed, rumors speculate that the top trim could deliver around 900 horsepower.

Stellantis' unveiling of the STLA Large platform represents a significant milestone in the company's transition toward electric mobility. With its advanced capabilities and impressive range, the platform sets the stage for the success of forthcoming Jeep and Dodge electric vehicles, as well as the future electrification plans of other Stellantis brands.
