In a remarkable turn of events, a working iPhone has been discovered by game developer Seanathan Bates after falling from Alaska Airlines flight 1282. The incident occurred on Friday when the plane experienced an explosive decompression, causing a door plug to detach. Miraculously, nobody was injured during the incident.
Bates stumbled upon the iPhone on the side of the road and was astonished to find it still in airplane mode with half its battery remaining. The device, which had a torn charging cable connector plugged in, appeared to be largely undamaged and displayed information that matched the flight details.
Excitedly sharing the news on social media platform X, Bates wrote, "Found an iPhone on the side of the road... Survived a 16,000-foot drop perfectly intact!"
Upon contacting the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), Bates learned that his discovery was actually the second working iPhone from the same flight. The NTSB confirmed during a press conference that two cell phones had been found, with the other one discovered in someone's yard.
The decompression event was triggered by the detachment of a door plug on the Boeing 737 Max 9 aircraft. Fortunately, no passengers or objects were violently sucked out, although the iPhone got yanked away due to the air pressure differences while it was still charging.
While it may seem extraordinary, iPhones surviving falls from great heights have been reported in the past. In fact, just a few months ago, an iPhone belonging to a skydiver managed to withstand a 14,000-foot drop from a plane. These instances are attributed to factors such as air resistance and landing on soft surfaces like moist dirt or mud.
At the time of the iPhone's discovery, the search was still ongoing for the missing door plug. However, it has since been found. A humorous comment on Hacker News suggested that Boeing could use a "Find My Door" feature.
As of now, it remains unclear if the iPhone has been reunited with its owner. Nonetheless, this extraordinary incident serves as a testament to the durability of Apple's devices and the fascinating abilities of technology to withstand unforeseen circumstances.
