In an exciting announcement made at the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Honda showcased its future as an all-electric brand by unveiling two innovative electric vehicle (EV) concepts. These concepts are set to be part of Honda's upcoming "0 Series" of passenger vehicles that will be available globally.
Honda's decision to embrace an all-electric future comes as a significant change of heart for the 75-year-old automaker, which had previously viewed the electric mobility market with skepticism. With the upcoming "0 Series," Honda now aims to catch up in the rapidly growing global EV market.
One of the key highlights of the announcement was the introduction of a unique "H" badge that will represent Honda's commitment to electric vehicles. The "0 Series" will be based on three core principles: Thin, Light, and Wise.
The unveiling of the 0 Series began with the presentation of two concept EVs called the "Saloon" and the "Space-Hub." These concepts herald the arrival of Honda's next-generation EV lineup. The Saloon concept, which is described as the flagship concept, showcases Honda's dedicated platform along with its "man maximum/machine minimum (M/M)" design philosophy. The Saloon concept features advanced technologies such as steer-by-wire and motion control management systems, as well as robotic posture control, enhancing the driver's experience and joy of driving in the EV era.
Honda plans to base its first passenger EV in the 0 Series on the Saloon concept, and it is expected to hit the North American market in 2026. The spacious and futuristic Space-Hub concept, on the other hand, offers an intriguing design focused on enhancing people's daily lives. While Honda has not yet confirmed if the Space-Hub will be developed into a production EV, it remains a possibility for the future.
The 0 Series is part of Honda's broader electrification strategy, which includes collaborations with other original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to establish local charging networks. Notably, Honda's upcoming Prologue SUV, built on GM's Ultium platform, is also in the pipeline.
With the successful debut of the Saloon and Space-Hub concepts, Honda has taken a significant step towards its electrification goals. The 0 Series is set to launch in North America in 2026, followed by the introduction of additional EV models in various markets worldwide, including Japan, Asia, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and South America.
As Honda embraces the electric future and strengthens its position in the EV market, these new concepts are expected to pave the way for a more sustainable and innovative lineup of vehicles. Exciting times lie ahead for Honda and its transformative journey into the world of electric mobility.
