American automaker Honda has announced a massive recall of over 2.5 million vehicles in the United States due to a fuel pump-related issue. The recall was submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Monday by American Honda Motor Co. This recall spans multiple model years across Honda and Acura models.
According to the NHTSA recall report, the vehicles affected by the recall for Honda include models from the years 2018-2020. These models include Accord, Civic Coupe, Civic Sedan, Civic Hatchback, Civic Type R, CR-V, HR-V, Ridgeline, and Odyssey. Additionally, models from 2019-2020 for Clarity PHEV and Fit, as well as the 2020 CR-V Hybrid, are also part of the recall. Models from 2017-2020 for Accord Hybrid are included as well.
As for Acura, the recall affects models from the years 2018-2020 for ILX, MDX, MDX Hybrid, RDX, RLX, and TLX. Models from 2017-2020 for the NSX are also included in the recall, stated the NHTSA.
The fuel pump module in these vehicles is prone to becoming inoperative, making the engine unable to start or causing it to stall while driving. This poses a significant risk of crashes and injuries for affected Honda and Acura owners, as mentioned in Honda's recall report.
Owners of the affected vehicles will be contacted by Honda with instructions to bring their vehicles to authorized dealerships for inspection and repair. The fuel pump module will be replaced free of charge to ensure the safety of the customers.
This recall comes as a part of Honda's commitment to prioritizing the safety and satisfaction of its customers. The automaker urges all affected owners to bring their vehicles in as soon as they receive the recall notice to address the issue promptly. Honda has stated that there have been no reported accidents or injuries related to this fuel pump issue at this time.
As the recall goes into effect, Honda and Acura owners are advised to stay updated through the official Honda website or contact their local dealerships for any additional information regarding the recall process.
With such a significant number of vehicles being recalled, it is paramount for Honda and Acura owners to take this issue seriously and ensure their vehicles are inspected and repaired to avoid any potential risks associated with the faulty fuel pump module.
