News Article:

Google's Search Generative Experience (SGE) is set to make a global impact as the tech giant expands its AI-powered search feature to users in 120 countries and territories. Initially introduced at the I/O 2023 conference, SGE has gained popularity for providing generative AI summaries at the top of the search results page for select users. Furthermore, Google has added support for four additional languages, including Spanish, Portuguese, Korean, and Indonesian.

The expansion of SGE has been a methodical process for Google, ensuring a smooth rollout across different regions. The company first launched the feature for English language searches in the United States in May. It later extended availability to English-language users in India and Japan. In September, Google made SGE accessible to teen users. Now, users from countries such as Brazil to Bhutan can experience the benefits of this AI-enhanced search feature.

One of the key features introduced in the expanded SGE is an improved follow-up function, enabling users to ask additional questions directly on the search results page. This new capability allows for a deeper exploration of search topics without the need to navigate away from the results page or type out queries. To prevent confusion, Google has implemented specific areas for ads to differentiate them from the generated content.

SGE also aims to enhance translation accuracy by addressing ambiguous terms. For instance, the feature will clarify translation options for words that have different meanings based on context or gender. This function will be particularly useful in languages like Spanish, where objects may be assigned gender-specific terms. Initially, this feature will be available for English-to-Spanish translations in the United States.

Google is also expanding its interactive definitions beyond educational topics like science, history, and economics. Coding and health-related searches will now be included, providing users with a comprehensive and interactive search experience. This update is expected to be rolled out within the next month, starting with English language users in the United States before expanding to more territories in the future.

As Google continues to iterate on its AI technology, it is likely that additional features and language support will be introduced to further enhance the search experience for users around the world. The expansion of SGE to 120 countries signifies Google's commitment to making the power of AI-driven search accessible on a global scale.
