In an exciting development for truck enthusiasts, Ford has unveiled the upgraded 2024 F-150 Raptor R, showcasing a significant increase in power. With a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine, the latest Raptor R now boasts an impressive 720 horsepower, surpassing its rival, the Ram TRX.

The announcement comes as Ford introduces a mild refresh to its best-selling vehicle. While the exterior receives some design tweaks, such as a more square-shaped front face and the Pro Access Tailgate for select trim levels, the true highlight lies under the hood.

Ford has achieved the power surge by fine-tuning the engine calibration and implementing measures to reduce air inlet losses. By modifying the hood and body close-out panel to enhance airflow to the air filter, the Raptor R delivers an exhilarating 720 horsepower. The torque remains unchanged at 640 pound-feet, but the wider torque curve ensures a thrilling driving experience.

The supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine in the Raptor R shares its roots with the formidable powerhouse found in the Mustang Shelby GT500, which produced a staggering 760 horsepower. When Ford debuted the V8-powered Raptor R in 2022, it focused on enhancing low-end power for optimal truck functionality. This resulted in a slightly lower peak output initially, but the latest iteration strikes a balance between low-end power and overall performance.

The timing of this power boost is noteworthy, as it prevented the Ram TRX from claiming the title of the most powerful gas-powered pickup truck of all time. With 720 horsepower, the Raptor R eclipses the outgoing 2024 Ram TRX by 18 horsepower, dethroning it from the top spot. Whether Ford's power increase was directly influenced by the Ram's departure remains unknown, but it certainly adds a competitive edge to the market.

While the exterior updates to the 2024 Raptor R are modest, with the striking new headlights featuring daytime LEDs forming a half-square around the outer edge, the interior remains largely unchanged. However, for the first time in the F-150 family, an optional heads-up display is available, enhancing the driver's visibility and convenience.

In terms of performance, the Raptor R is equipped with new dual-valve Fox shocks, ensuring a smooth and controlled ride. However, for truck enthusiasts seeking a more budget-friendly option, other F-150 models now feature a standard-issue 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engine generating 325 horsepower.

The upgraded 2024 Ford F-150 Raptor R undoubtedly raises the bar for high-speed off-road rigs, cementing its position as a formidable and power-packed contender in the pickup truck segment. With its enhanced performance capabilities and a power output that surpasses its closest rival, the Raptor R is set to impress off-road enthusiasts and truck aficionados across the globe.
