In the world of motorcycle engineering, there are few creations as outlandish and remarkable as the Tinker Toy, a 48-cylinder Kawasaki motorcycle built by the talented custom fabricator Whitelock. This awe-inspiring machine, which took around five years to construct, is now set to be auctioned off at Bonhams' "The Spring Stafford Sale - The International Classic MotorCycle Show" in the United Kingdom on April 21.

Whitelock's Tinker Toy is a true marvel, featuring a mind-boggling 48-cylinder engine composed of 16 Kawasaki KH250 engines combined in six banks. With a total weight of a staggering 1,300 pounds, the motorcycle showcases Whitelock's exceptional craftsmanship and imaginative approach to building motorcycles.

To accommodate this monstrous engine, Whitelock had to make various modifications to the bike's structure. The front end of the Tinker Toy is believed to come from a 500, while the frame was adapted from a S3 400 model. The engine cases were specially modified to fit a 500cc engine's clutch and clutch cover. Whitelock also widened the bike by approximately four inches, requiring alterations to the frame, tail, seat, and the merging of two fuel tanks.

The detailed video tour provided by Whitelock himself offers a glimpse into the intricate construction process of the Tinker Toy. The exhaust headers had to be meticulously made in sections, resulting in a 24-into-1 exhaust system on each side, terminating into two four-stroke exhaust cans. The motorcycle features a liquid-cooling circuit to help manage the engine's heat, alongside a car alternator sourced from a Ford Mondeo and a transmission from a BMW.

Despite its awe-inspiring appearance, Whitelock clarifies that speed and power were not the primary objectives when designing the Tinker Toy. Instead, it was created with the aim of securing a Guinness World Record, emphasizing it as a testament to Whitelock's remarkable skill and ingenuity. While the top speed is estimated to be around 120-130 mph, the true appeal lies in the sheer awe-inspiring stature and unconventional nature of the motorcycle.

It is worth noting that the Tinker Toy has had its fair share of adventures, including some mishaps captured in the video. Moreover, as the motorcycle now heads to auction, potential buyers should be aware that the tires may require replacing due to dry rot reported in the photos. However, this minor maintenance issue does not diminish the uniqueness and exhilaration of owning such a remarkable piece of motorcycle history.

The auction of the Tinker Toy signifies the end of an era for Whitelock, who has built a reputation for his groundbreaking creations. From a triple-seven creation to an electric conversion of a Kawasaki KH250, Whitelock's craftsmanship knows no bounds. The Tinker Toy, however, represents the pinnacle of his work, the culmination of years of dedication and unwavering creativity.

As motorcycle enthusiasts eagerly await the auction, the Tinker Toy serves as a reminder of the audacious spirit that underpins the world of custom motorcycles, where impracticality and uncommon designs can deliver pure joy.
