Renowned game developer Cliff "CliffyB" Bleszinski has expressed his willingness to consult on the next installment of the Gears of War franchise, stating that it would be a valuable move from a public relations perspective. In a recent statement posted on X/Twitter, Bleszinski shared his interest in working with Microsoft and Coalition, the studios behind Gears of War.
Having last contributed to a Gears game in 2011, Bleszinski emphasized that the franchise holds great significance to his legacy and he is ready to offer his insights if given the opportunity. He highlighted the potential PR benefits that could be gained from involving him in the development process. However, it appears that neither Microsoft nor Coalition have approached him, leading Bleszinski to move on from game development.
Bleszinski expressed his willingness to consult and provide input, but stated that he has received no response from the companies involved. Despite this, he acknowledged the impact that Gears of War has had on his career and expressed his gratitude for its contribution to his legacy. He suggested that Microsoft and Coalition would be wise to seek his perspective due to the positive PR it could generate.
In light of not being involved in the new Gears project, Bleszinski shared that he has already embarked on different ventures. These include endeavors such as restaurants, Broadway, working on his memoir, creating comics, and pursuing a career in stand-up comedy. Despite the closure of his studio, Boss Key Productions, Bleszinski remains optimistic about pursuing new opportunities outside of the gaming industry.
Bleszinski concluded his statement by urging fans to check out his comic series, Scrapper, and emphasized the importance of creating personal content. He also mentioned a separate pitch he made to Epic Games regarding a game concept involving "medieval Pokémon with baby dragons instead." Unfortunately, this idea was rejected by major publishers.
As the gaming community awaits the next installment in the Gears of War series, it remains uncertain whether Microsoft and Coalition will take Bleszinski up on his offer to consult. Bleszinski, however, seems content with his new creative ventures and the opportunities they present for him in the future.
