BlendJet Recalls 4.8 Million Portable Blenders Due to Safety Concerns
ICARO Media Group
BlendJet Inc., based in Benicia, California, is recalling approximately 4.8 million portable blenders sold at popular retailers such as Costco, Target, and Walmart. The decision comes after numerous reports of blades breaking off during use and incidents of overheating or catching fire, resulting in dozens of injuries. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a notice urging consumers to stop using the product immediately.
The company has received 329 reports of the BlendJet 2 Portable Blenders' blades breaking off while in use and an additional 17 reports of overheating or fires, leading to property damage claims totaling approximately $150,000. In addition, BlendJet has been notified of 49 minor burn injuries and one laceration injury associated with the product.
Consumer Reports, which began raising safety concerns in August, highlighted a case where a blender started smoking while plugged in, resulting in a child burning his finger while unplugging it. The organization emphasizes the importance of BlendJet spreading awareness about the recall and urges the company to provide customers with the option of a refund if they are uncomfortable receiving a replacement.
Manufactured in China, the recalled portable blenders were sold nationwide and online between October 2020 and November 2023. Priced between $50 and $75, the blenders were available in various colors and designs. Consumers can identify the recalled blenders by checking the first four digits of the serial number, which range from 5201 to 5542. Additional information for identifying the affected blenders is available on BlendJet's website.
The CPSC advises consumers to discontinue using the recalled blenders and contact BlendJet for a free base unit replacement. As part of the replacement process, purchasers of the affected product will be required to remove and cut the base's rubber seal. They must then email or upload a photo of the cut seal on BlendJet's website.
Notably, the recall extends beyond the United States with approximately 117,000 of the affected blenders sold in Canada. Consumers in Canada are advised to follow the same instructions and procedures provided by BlendJet and the CPSC.
BlendJet Inc. expresses its commitment to the safety and satisfaction of its customers and regrets any inconvenience caused by the recall. The company remains dedicated to addressing the issues promptly and effectively to ensure the well-being of its consumers.
As the recall commences, it is crucial for owners of BlendJet portable blenders to take immediate action to mitigate any potential hazards.
