Best Buy, the popular electronics retailer, has issued a recall of approximately 930,000 Insignia pressure cookers and separate inner pots, citing a defect that poses burn hazards to consumers. The announcement came after reports of 31 incidents involving the expulsion of hot food and liquids, resulting in 17 burn injuries, some of which were severe.

The pressure cookers in question were sold under the brand Insignia and were equipped with inner pots that contained incorrect volume markings. This defect could potentially cause consumers to overfill the pots, leading to the ejection of hot contents when the device is vented or opened. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a notice on Thursday alerting the public to the potential risks associated with these products.

Sold at Best Buy stores nationwide, as well as through Best Buy's website and Amazon, the recalled Insignia Multi-Function Pressure Cookers and inner pots were available from October 2017 to June 2021. Consumers can identify the affected pressure cookers, available in six- and eight-quart capacities, by checking their model numbers. The Insignia brand name is prominently displayed on the front of each unit and on its permanent label.

As a precautionary measure, consumers who own the recalled pressure cookers and inner pots are advised to immediately cease usage. Best Buy is offering a free replacement of the inner pot and floating locking valve to affected customers. However, the company's website notice states that refunds or replacements will not be provided for pressure cookers returned in stores. Impacted consumers must register online to receive the replacement kit, and only those who own the recalled pressure cooker specifically, not just the inner pot, are eligible.

In an official statement, Best Buy emphasized the importance of customer safety and revealed that they are proactively contacting customers who directly purchased the recalled products. The company, based in Richfield, Minnesota, expressed its commitment to resolving the issue swiftly and efficiently.

Concerned consumers who have purchased the Insignia pressure cookers or inner pots are urged to take immediate action to ensure their safety. By following the recall instructions provided by Best Buy, customers can safeguard themselves from potential burn hazards associated with these defective products.
