Best Buy has announced a recall of its Insignia Multi-Function Pressure Cookers due to a potential burn hazard. The recall includes specific model numbers and inner cooker pots sold separately as replacements.

The affected pressure cookers, with model numbers NS-MC60SS8, NS-MC60SS9, or NS-MC80SS9, have incorrect volume markings on the inner pot. This poses a risk as consumers may inadvertently overfill the pot, causing hot food and liquids to be expelled when vented using the quick-release method or when the cooker is opened while contents are pressurized. Such incidents can result in burns or other related injuries.

To identify the recalled pressure cookers, consumers can look for the brand name INSIGNIA displayed prominently on the front of each unit and its permanent on-product label. The specific model numbers can be found on the permanent on-product label on the side of the cooker. The inner cooker pots, sold separately as replacements, are in black color with a non-stick coating and embossed markings indicating cup and liter measurements.

Consumers who own the affected pressure cookers are urged to immediately stop using them and contact Best Buy for a free replacement of the inner pot and floating locking valve for signaling pressure. Best Buy's toll-free number, 888-359-4485, is available from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. CT Monday through Friday. Alternatively, consumers can visit Best Buy's website and click on "Pressure Cooker Recall" in the Home Page banner or go to "Product Recalls" at the bottom of the home page under "Orders & Purchases" for further instructions.

According to Best Buy, there have been 31 reported incidents involving the expulsion of contents under pressure. Among these incidents, 17 reports have involved burn injuries, some of which were identified as second-degree burns with severe effects.

The recalled pressure cookers were sold at Best Buy stores nationwide as well as online at bestbuy.com and amazon.com between October 2017 and June 2023. The price range for the pressure cookers was between $50 and $120.

It is important for consumers to prioritize safety and heed the manufacturer's recall notice to avoid potential burn hazards associated with the use of the affected Insignia Multi-Function Pressure Cookers.
