Budget carrier Allegiant Air is set to expand its operations with the addition of 10 new nonstop routes across 14 different airports. The airline's bases in Los Angeles and Knoxville, Tennessee emerged as the big winners, securing three new nonstop routes each. Meanwhile, multiple new routes were also announced for Jacksonville and St. Petersburg in Florida.

In an exciting development, Allegiant Air revealed that it would be the exclusive carrier offering nonstop service on all 10 of the newly announced routes. This positions the airline as a key player in connecting travelers between these destinations.

Allegiant Air's expansion efforts also encompass lesser-known secondary airports within its network. One such airport is Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD), which will now receive twice-weekly nonstop flights to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Although several airlines already operate nonstop flights between Chicago and Los Angeles, Allegiant will be the sole carrier to operate this route directly from RFD. Despite its name, RFD, located in Rockford, Illinois, is approximately 85 miles west of Chicago's downtown Loop neighborhood. Its aim in adopting the Chicago name was to present itself as an alternative to the busier O'Hare International Airport (ORD) and Midway International Airport (MDW). As of now, Allegiant is the only airline offering service at RFD, serving a total of eight other destinations on either seasonal or year-round basis.

Another secondary airport benefiting from Allegiant's expansion is MidAmerica St. Louis Airport (BLV), situated 25 miles from downtown St. Louis near Belleville, Illinois. The airport was launched in the late 1990s to alleviate overcrowding at St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL), the main airport in the metropolitan area. However, due to declining flights, airport capacity at STL remained underutilized despite the addition of a new runway and the discontinuation of American's hub inherited from TWA in the mid-2000s. Similar to RFD, Allegiant serves as the only airline with regularly scheduled passenger service at BLV.

The new routes are scheduled to commence services as follows: Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD) on June 12, Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) in Florida on June 14, and MidAmerica St. Louis Airport (BLV) in Belleville, Illinois on June 13. Two flights per week will be available for each of these routes, providing passengers with increased travel options and convenience.

Allegiant Air's expansion comes as a positive development for both the airline and the travelers. With the addition of these new routes, Allegiant aims to enhance connectivity and provide more efficient travel options for passengers across the United States.
