In an ongoing effort to strengthen their roster, the Washington Commanders have been active in the early stages of free agency. While the initial wave has passed, the team remains committed to scouting and signing players until the end of the 2024 season.

As of now, the Commanders have 64 players on their roster, with 31 on defense, 29 on offense, and four special teams specialists. Recent signings include linebacker Anthony Pittman and defensive end Efe Obada, who will contribute to both special teams and the defensive line rotation.

There have been notable changes on the depth chart as well. Guard Nick Allegretti, who initially started as a backup, has impressed the coaching staff and fans with his passion for the game and enthusiasm to join Washington. As a result, Allegretti has now been moved up to the starting left guard position, while Andrew Wylie has transitioned back to right tackle.

However, the offensive tackle position remains an area of concern for the Commanders. With no clear starting-level player in this group, the team is actively seeking to add two starters and a swing tackle. It is anticipated that they may acquire veteran players to fill these important roles before the draft, as the free agent tackle market has been slow due to the deep draft class and the age of available free agents.

The recent trade of quarterback Sam Howell has solidified the team's intention to draft a quarterback in April. The only remaining questions are who will be selected and whether the front office will make any trades before making their pick.

Financially, the Commanders are well-positioned with ample salary cap space. Although the exact figure is yet to be determined, they have enough room to pursue any remaining free agents they deem necessary. Over the Cap currently lists their available cap space at $62.3 million, but this number may be inaccurate due to unlisted player contracts.

As the offseason progresses, the Commanders' front office, led by Adam Peters, will focus on securing veteran tackles, drafting offensive tackles, and finalizing the quarterback selection. With a roster taking shape and ample resources available, Washington aims to build a competitive team for the 2024 season.
