No. 1 South Carolina women's basketball team achieved a remarkable feat by winning its record 43rd consecutive Southeastern Conference regular-season game after rallying to beat Georgia 70-56. Led by Kamilla Cardoso's 16 points and 16 rebounds, the Gamecocks (25-0, 12-0 SEC) surpassed the previous mark held by Tennessee and the late Pat Summitt set between January 1992 and January 1996. Coach Dawn Staley praised her players for their historic accomplishment in one of college basketball's toughest leagues.
Despite Georgia's strong performance, highlighted by Javyn Nicholson's career-high 27 points, South Carolina displayed resilience and determination to secure the win. Chloe Kitts' 12 points, along with contributions from Te-Hina Paopao and MiLaysia Fulwiley, boosted the Gamecocks to victory. Fulwiley's crucial plays in the fourth quarter helped South Carolina pull away and maintain their status as the only undefeated Division I team.
Paopao's 15 points, fueled by five 3-pointers, and Cardoso's 12th double-double of the season added to the team's success. Georgia fought hard but ultimately suffered their 18th consecutive loss to South Carolina. The Gamecocks' 55th straight home win also marked a milestone, as it was their fourth sold-out game at the 18,000-seat Colonial Life Arena this season, with ESPN's College GameDay coverage preceding the matchup.
The Gamecocks faced adversity early on as Georgia surged ahead with a 17-2 run, but South Carolina's determination and depth led them to victory. The team's remarkable achievement of 43 straight SEC victories showcases their dominance and resilience in the challenging conference.
