Carlos Sainz showcased his speed by setting the quickest time on the second day of 2024 Formula 1 winter testing in Bahrain. The disrupted day saw Sainz's teammate Charles Leclerc topping the morning session before it was halted due to an issue with Ferrari's SF-24. The session was not restarted, but an extra hour was added to the afternoon session.

Sergio Perez had a strong performance for Red Bull, completing the most laps and eventually finishing second overall. Lewis Hamilton impressed in his testing debut with Mercedes, securing the third-fastest time. Lando Norris of McLaren faced some gremlins in the afternoon session but managed to finish in fourth place.

Additionally, Daniel Ricciardo, Lance Stroll, and Esteban Ocon also put in solid performances to round out the top positions. Logan Sargeant had a productive day for Williams, clocking the 11th-fastest time, while Fernando Alonso, Zhou Guanyu, and Pierre Gasly had limited running in the morning session.

Overall, the day was relatively incident-free, with the afternoon running proceeding smoothly until a brief red flag towards the end for planned system checks. The pre-season testing will conclude on Friday before the 2024 F1 season kicks off at the same venue next week.
