Saints Sign Nathan Peterman as Backup Quarterback for 2024 Season

In a move to fill the void left by Jameis Winston's departure, the New Orleans Saints have reportedly signed Nathan Peterman as their backup quarterback for the 2024 season. This news, reported by Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football, comes after Winston signed with the Cleveland Browns as a free agent earlier this week.

Peterman, who spent the last two seasons with the Bears, made one start during the 2022 season. Interestingly, the Saints' current quarterbacks coach, Andrew Janocko, held the same position on the Bears' coaching staff during Peterman's time with the team. This familiarity likely played a role in attracting Peterman to New Orleans.

With Derek Carr and 2023 fourth-round pick Jake Haener already on the quarterback depth chart, Peterman and Haener are expected to compete for the backup role behind Carr. However, it's worth noting that Taysom Hill, who is known for his versatility, may also see some snaps at the quarterback position.

As the Saints gear up for the 2024 season, it remains to be seen how Peterman will perform in his new role. With the competition heating up, the Saints' coaching staff will undoubtedly be keeping a close eye on both Peterman and Haener. Barring any further roster moves, one of them will emerge as the primary backup to Carr.

The signing of Peterman adds depth and experience to the Saints' quarterback room, providing Carr with capable support. The team will be hoping that this addition will contribute to their success in the upcoming season.
