The Boston Red Sox are in the final stages of adding experienced three-time All-Star right-hander Liam Hendriks to their roster, according to multiple sources. The deal is expected to be worth $10 million guaranteed over two years, with a potential additional $10 million in performance bonuses. There is also a mutual option for a third season in 2026. The agreement is pending a physical examination.

Hendriks, who is 35 years old, underwent Tommy John surgery last August and is unlikely to be ready for the upcoming Opening Day. He is targeting a return around the trade deadline in July, provided there are no setbacks in his recovery. Despite his recent injury, Hendriks has established himself as one of the top relievers in baseball, boasting a 2.32 ERA and 362 strikeouts in 244 innings since 2019, with 115 saves to his name.

The addition of Hendriks comes at a time of transition in the Red Sox bullpen, following the trade of John Schreiber to the Royals. With closer Kenley Jansen and setup man Chris Martin also potentially on the trading block, Hendriks is seen as a strong contender to fill the closer role for the team in 2025. This move marks the third major league free agent signing by the Red Sox this offseason, with a projected payroll of around $206 million for the upcoming season as a result of the deal with Hendriks.
