In a recent mock draft, the Los Angeles Rams focused on addressing their defensive needs, particularly at the edge defender position. With a trade and strategic selections, the Rams added promising talent to bolster their roster ahead of the upcoming NFL Draft.
In the first round, the Rams traded down with the Green Bay Packers, moving from the 19th to the 25th overall pick. With their newly acquired selection, the Rams chose Chop Robinson, an edge defender from Penn State. Robinson is praised for his elite pass-rushing skills and quick first step, despite a perceived lack of polish and sack production in college.
The Rams continued to strengthen their defense in the second round, selecting defensive lineman Ruke Orhorhoro from Clemson. Known for his athleticism and pass-rushing ability, Orhorhoro is expected to be a valuable addition to the Rams' defensive line.
Turning their attention to the offensive side of the ball, the Rams picked wide receiver Brenden Rice from USC in the third round. Rice, the son of legendary wide receiver Jerry Rice, brings excellent route-running skills and the potential to be a long-term starter alongside Puka Nacua.
In a trade with the Packers, the Rams acquired the 88th overall pick in the third round, which they used to select offensive tackle Dominick Puni from Kansas. Puni proved himself as a versatile player during the Senior Bowl, capable of playing all five positions on the offensive line. Puni's addition provides the Rams with depth and flexibility in case of injuries.
The Rams added safety Calen Bullock from USC in the third round. Bullock's impressive athleticism and coverage skills make him a valuable asset in the secondary. While he may need some development in run support, Bullock's young age and potential suggest he could become a key starter in the future.
In the fifth round, the Rams addressed their cornerback depth by selecting Dwight McGlothern from Arkansas. McGlothern's skills in zone coverage and potential as a ballhawk make him an intriguing prospect for the Rams, who have already invested in young cornerbacks in previous drafts.
The Rams added running back Dylan Laube from New Hampshire in the fifth round to provide support and rest to their star running back, Kyren Williams. Laube's skill set in both running and receiving complements Williams well.
In the later rounds, the Rams selected edge defender Brennan Jackson from Washington State, center Tanor Bortolini from Wisconsin, wide receiver Joshua Cephus from UTSA, running back Isaiah Davis from South Dakota State, and kicker Joshua Karty from Stanford.
Overall, the Rams utilized their mock draft to address their defensive needs, adding talent and depth to their roster. With a combination of promising prospects and experienced veterans, the Rams are looking to make a strong impact in the upcoming NFL season.
