The Pittsburgh Steelers are entering the 2024 NFL season with uncertainty surrounding their quarterback situation. The team does not have a clear No. 1 quarterback, with internal division on whether Mason Rudolph should be the starter following his performance at the end of the previous season. Rudolph, who is due to become a free agent next month, may not necessarily return to Pittsburgh, leaving the team in search of a new signal-caller.

Despite drafting Kenny Pickett in the first round two years ago with the intention of him being the heir to Ben Roethlisberger, Pickett suffered a late-season ankle injury, allowing Rudolph to emerge as the starter. However, the Steelers do not seem interested in bringing in a quarterback who wants to start, according to reports. This stance may limit their options as they look for someone to lead the team in the upcoming season.

Key alternatives to Pickett and Rudolph, such as Kirk Cousins, Justin Fields, Ryan Tannehill, and Russell Wilson, are potential options in the quarterback market, with some available as free agents or via trade. The Steelers, though, seem reluctant to explore these possibilities, opting to stick to their current roster.

With head coach Mike Tomlin leading the team, the Steelers are expected to maintain a competitive record, but the absence of a quarterback who can perform in clutch moments during playoff games has raised concerns. The team has not won a playoff game since the 2016 season, emphasizing the importance of finding a reliable starter to guide them towards postseason success in 2024.
