In the world of NFL mock drafts, the race for who the New York Giants should select with their No. 6 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft has narrowed down to three top contenders. According to the latest mock draft analysis, the leading candidates for the Giants' sixth pick are Washington wide receiver Rome Odunze, LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers, and Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy.
Among the 55 mock drafts analyzed, Odunze has gained the most support at the No. 6 spot. He was chosen in 20 of the mocks, accounting for 36.4% of the predictions. Nabers closely trails Odunze with 18 mock selections (32.7%). This means that 69.1% of the mock drafters believe that the Giants should prioritize selecting the best wide receiver available.
Vinnie Iyer of The Sporting News is among the experts who have endorsed Odunze as the Giants' top choice. In his analysis, Iyer points out that the Giants may be reevaluating their position on selecting a quarterback, as they consider their current quarterback, Daniel Jones, alongside the addition of free-agent Drew Lock. The team's focus seems to be directed towards acquiring a number one receiver to strengthen their offense, and Odunze's abilities as a big-play threat on the outside make him an ideal fit.
While 12 of the 55 mock drafts (21.8%) suggest the Giants selecting a quarterback, McCarthy is the preferred choice in 10 of those drafts (18.2%). McCarthy's stock has been rapidly rising, despite his limited usage in the passing game during his time at Ann Arbor. Experts are drawn to his demeanor, accuracy, leadership, athleticism, and high ceiling. Furthermore, his impressive college record of 27-1 with the Wolverines adds to his appeal. If drafted, McCarthy could potentially redshirt behind Lock and Jones, offering the Giants flexibility to evaluate their quarterback situation in the coming years.
The Giants' decision at the No. 6 pick will greatly impact their future success. With options ranging from adding a dynamic wide receiver to potentially securing a talented young quarterback, the team's front office, led by GM Joe Schoen, will carefully consider their supporting cast and the long-term effects of each choice. As the draft approaches, fans eagerly await to see who will ultimately be selected by the New York Giants in the 2024 NFL Draft.
