NASCAR has swiftly made the decision to postpone the Daytona 500 to Monday at 4 p.m. ET, shifting from its original 3 p.m. ET start time on Sunday. The race will be broadcast on Fox. Heavy rain in Daytona Beach since Saturday prompted the speedy rescheduling, with more rain expected on Sunday. This marks the third significant delay for the Daytona 500 in the past five seasons, following the 2020 race which concluded on a Monday due to rain and the 2021 race ending late Sunday night for the same reason.
In addition to the Daytona 500, NASCAR will run two races on Monday. The Xfinity Series race, postponed from Saturday due to rain, will start at 11 a.m. ET. The ARCA Series race, originally scheduled for Saturday, took place late Friday night after the Truck Series race to avoid delays. This history-making decision will see two races held on a Monday during Speedweeks for the first time.
The weather forecast for Monday looks more favorable than Sunday, with rain expected to lessen overnight and skies clearing in the afternoon. While there remains a chance of rain delaying races, conditions seem suitable for both events to run as planned. Joey Logano is primed to lead the field from the pole position for the Daytona 500, marking his first career Daytona pole position. The two-time Cup Series champion previously secured a victory in the 2015 Daytona 500.
