The Minnesota Vikings have suffered another setback in the free agency market, as kicker Greg Joseph has reportedly signed with division rivals, the Green Bay Packers. Joseph, who has been a reliable kicker for the Vikings since the 2021 season, will now ply his trade for their arch-nemesis in the upcoming 2024 NFL season.

Over the last three years, Joseph has proven his accuracy, converting an impressive 82.2% of his field goal attempts (83/101) and 90.3% of his extra points (112/124). His contributions to the team have been exceptional, notably setting a record for the most game-winning field goals in a season for any Vikings kicker with five crucial kicks in the 2022 season.

Furthermore, Joseph's name holds a special place in the team's history, as he currently holds the franchise record for the longest field goal. In Week 16 of the 2022 season, he drilled a remarkable 61-yarder to seal a victory over the New York Giants, leaving fans in awe of his leg strength and precision.

With Joseph's departure, the Vikings find themselves in need of a new kicker for the upcoming season. The only kicker currently on their roster is newly-signed John Parker Romo, who enters the NFL without any prior experience. This poses a significant challenge for the Vikings, as they face the daunting task of finding a replacement for Joseph's consistent contributions.

In addition to Joseph, the Vikings still have seven more of their in-house free agents left unsigned. The team's front office will need to strategize and make quick decisions to strengthen the roster and address the vacancies in key positions.

As the 2024 NFL season approaches, both the Vikings and their fans are left to ponder the impact of Joseph's departure and the void it leaves in the kicking game. Only time will tell if the newly-signed Romo or a potential acquisition can fill the shoes of the record-setting kicker and continue the team's quest for success on the field.
