Valdes-Scantling, who had a career-low season in 2023 with 315 receiving yards and one touchdown, is known for his deep threat ability but struggled to perform consistently for the Chiefs.

The Chiefs had a disappointing season in 2023, with their receiving corps finishing with the most drops and highest drop rate in the NFL. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes also struggled when targeting wide receivers 10+ yards downfield, posting the worst touchdown-interception ratio in the league.

Valdes-Scantling joined the Chiefs in 2022 on a three-year, $30 million deal after spending four seasons with the Green Bay Packers. His best season came in 2020 when he led the league in yards per reception.

With the release of Valdes-Scantling, the Chiefs now have $28.15 million in cap space, ranking 17th in the league. They have some key free agents to consider, including defensive tackle Chris Jones and cornerback L'Jarius Sneed. The Chiefs are reportedly prepared to place the franchise tag on Sneed if a new deal cannot be reached, with a potential trade also on the table.

As Valdes-Scantling hits free agency, potential landing spots for him include reuniting with Aaron Rodgers at the Green Bay Packers, joining the Philadelphia Eagles to add a downfield threat for Jalen Hurts, or fitting in with the Tennessee Titans' new offensive strategy under Brian Callahan. The Titans are shifting towards a more pass-focused approach, making Valdes-Scantling's deep threat abilities an appealing option for their revamped offense.
