Eli Gold, the veteran radio announcer known for his 36-year tenure as the voice of the Alabama Crimson Tide football team, is embarking on a new chapter in his career. According to a report by The Tennessean, Gold will now serve as the radio voice of the Nashville Kats in the Arena Football League. The 70-year-old play-by-play man expressed his enthusiasm for this opportunity, citing his previous experience in the Arena Football League when he was the TV voice for the league during games broadcasted on NBC and TNN.
In a recent interview on "The Opening Kickoff" on WNSP-FM 105.5, Gold shared his disappointment over leaving his previous position with the Crimson Tide, stating that he had proposed doing another full season before stepping down, which was not met with interest by the organization. The Crimson Tide Sports Network (CTSN) released a statement explaining that Gold had been offered a "limited role" within the network, including the lead broadcast role for this year's A-Day game, but he declined the opportunity.
The Nashville Kats are set to play a 10-game schedule starting on April 27, marking Gold's return to Nashville, where he previously worked as the radio play-by-play announcer for the NHL's Predators back in the 2006-07 season. The CTSN expressed their appreciation for Gold's contributions over the years and wished him the best in his future endeavors.
