NBA legend Charles Barkley took the opportunity during the alternate broadcast of the NBA All-Star game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indiana to once again criticize San Francisco, where Warriors forward Draymond Green plays at the Chase Center. Barkley's comments came as he was speaking with Green and former NBA star Reggie Miller. Barkley made disparaging remarks about the city, referring to a perceived issue with homelessness and crime. Green and the other hosts defended San Francisco, with Green affirming that it is safe to walk around the city, despite Barkley's remarks about needing a bulletproof vest.

This is not the first time Barkley has taken aim at San Francisco. Last year, during a rain delay at a game between the Warriors and Mavericks, he criticized the city for its alleged dirtiness and homelessness. Despite these criticisms, many residents, like Danny Taplan of Walnut Creek, believe that Barkley's comments are more humorous than accurate. Taplan jokingly mentioned that while he finds Barkley amusing, he hopes the star refrains from visiting San Francisco in the future.
