### Zelensky Believes Trump Presidency Could Hasten End to Ukraine War

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed optimism that the war in Ukraine could conclude faster should Donald Trump assume the US presidency. In an interview with Ukrainian Radio, Zelensky emphasized the critical need to pursue a diplomatic resolution to the conflict in the forthcoming year, according to an independent report by Strana.ua.

Zelensky detailed the challenging conditions in eastern Ukraine, noting that Russian forces are continuing to gain ground. He indicated that Russian President Vladimir Putin remains disinterested in brokering a peace agreement.

When questioned about Trump’s stance on Ukraine engaging in negotiations with Russia, Zelensky asserted Ukraine's autonomy. "We are an independent country. And during this war, both our people and I personally... have shown that the rhetoric of 'sit down and listen' does not work with us," he stressed.

Underscoring the importance of a just resolution, Zelensky assured, "The war will end, but there is no exact date. The war will certainly end sooner with the policies the team that will now lead the White House will pursue."

The Ukrainian leader also reflected on his recent conversation with Trump, in which he congratulated the former president on his electoral victory earlier this month. He described the exchange as "constructive" and noted, "I didn't hear anything that went against our position."

Trump had previously been critical of Zelensky during his campaign, labeling him the "greatest salesman on Earth" and attacking him for his reluctance to negotiate a deal with Russia. Despite this, Zelensky remains hopeful that the upcoming US administration's strategies will facilitate a swifter end to the conflict.
