**Two Youths Arrested After Assault on Former Governor David Paterson**

Two young boys, aged 12 and 13, have been apprehended in connection with the attack on former New York Governor David Paterson and his stepson, Anthony Sliwa, that occurred on Friday night. The New York City Police Department charged the youths with gang assault following their arrest on Saturday. Due to their age, the identities of the suspects are not being disclosed.

In a statement released Sunday, a spokesperson for Paterson expressed relief that the suspects had surrendered. "Governor Paterson and his family are glad to see the suspects turned themselves in. We hope that the young people involved learn something from this unfortunate encounter. The Governor is grateful to see the kids' parents hold them to account and would also like to thank the NYPD for their strong work," the statement read.

The NYPD initially reported that they were searching for five individuals connected to the incident and may still be pursuing additional suspects.

The attack took place on Second Avenue in Manhattan's Upper East Side. According to police reports, the altercation began when Paterson and his 20-year-old stepson encountered three people climbing a fire escape while out walking their dog. An argument ensued after Sliwa threatened to call the police.

Approximately 45 minutes later, when Paterson and Sliwa went back outside, the group had grown and recognized Sliwa from the earlier encounter. The situation escalated into violence. Paterson was struck in the face and shoulder, while his stepson was knocked to the ground.

Guardian Angels founder and former mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa, who is Anthony’s father, spoke out, commending Anthony for his bravery. "When they were insulting him and starting to fight him, he didn’t back down. And I think that took a lot of courage, a lot of bravery," he said. Paterson added, "He did the right thing. And then when they attacked him, he did the right thing to protect David Paterson."

Both Paterson and his stepson were treated at a local hospital and have since been released. Paterson noted that his stepson needed five stitches on his lower lip and endured multiple bruises but is expected to recover fully.
