**White House Unveils Darker Presidential Portrait of Trump**
The White House has revealed a new official portrait of President Trump, bringing a notable shift in tone from his previous portraits. The image, released on June 3, 2025, features a solemn President Trump against a dark backdrop.
In this latest portrait, Trump is depicted wearing a red tie, with a stern facial expression highlighted by sharp contrasts and dark shadows. This is a stark departure from his earlier inauguration photograph, which portrayed him in a blue tie with more even lighting. Trump's previous first-term portrait from 2017 showed him in front of an American flag, brightly lit and smiling.
The omission of the American flag in the background of Trump's current portrait marks a break from modern tradition. Since 1974, all official presidential portraits have included a flag, starting with Gerald Ford's portrait. Prior to Ford, it was common for presidents to be photographed against plain backdrops.
The new portrait has already been added to the White House's official website, reflecting this change in visual presentation for President Trump.
