In a disturbing series of events, a string of at least four shootings occurred overnight along Interstate 5 in Washington state, leaving multiple individuals injured. The Washington State Patrol has launched an investigation into these incidents, with one suspect already in custody.
The shootings began on Monday night in the Seattle and Tacoma areas of Washington, as reported by Trooper Rick Johnson of the King County Troopers. The first shooting took place in the northbound lanes near 320th Street, and shortly after, a second shooting was confirmed near Interstate 90 in Seattle. Troopers are currently examining other reports of shootings.
Authorities later received reports of two additional shootings on Interstate 5 involving the same suspected vehicle as the previous incidents. One occurred near State Route 18, while the other took place near 54th Street south of Seattle in Pierce County. Although Trooper Johnson did not provide specific details regarding the number of individuals wounded, he stated that injuries were sustained in both shootings.
According to Trooper Johnson's posts on social media, the suspect vehicle was described as a white Volvo with California license plates. In the first shooting, two passengers in separate vehicles sustained injuries. The first victim managed to exit the freeway and seek treatment at a nearby fire station, where they were then transported to a hospital. The second victim, a 20-year-old woman, was critically injured in the shooting near Interstate 90 and was immediately taken to Harborview Medical Center for medical assistance.
Troopers are currently investigating the possibility of another related shooting occurring northbound on Interstate 5 near Martin Luther King Junior Way in Tukwila. As part of the investigation, traffic on southbound Interstate 5 was temporarily halted near 320th Street in Federal Way for evidence collection.
A coordinated search led law enforcement to locate the suspect vehicle and subsequently make an arrest. Johnson shared on social media that the suspect was taken into custody by police in Pierce County. However, no further information regarding the suspect or the arrest was immediately available.
The Washington State Patrol, along with other agencies, are working diligently to gather more information and ensure the safety of the public. The investigation into these disturbing shootings continues as authorities aim to bring justice to those affected and provide answers to the community concerning these acts of violence along Interstate 5.
