In a continuing effort to overhaul their front office, the Washington Commanders have made another significant move by hiring former Carolina Panthers General Manager, Scott Fitterer. According to team sources, Fitterer will join the Commanders as a personnel executive, supporting the team's revamped department under General Manager Adam Peters.

Fitterer brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having spent over two decades in the NFL. He was a part of the Seattle Seahawks' front office from 2001 to 2020 before joining the Carolina Panthers in 2021. However, Fitterer's tenure in Carolina came to an end when he was fired in January, following a disappointing stretch for the Panthers, who went 14-37 over the previous three seasons.

This latest addition to Washington's front office marks another step in their offseason revamp. Peters, who was hired from the San Francisco 49ers in January, has been instrumental in bringing in new personnel. Lance Newmark, a former executive from the Detroit Lions, joins as assistant GM, while Brandon Sosna is the team's new senior vice president of football operations. David Blackburn, previously with the Baltimore Ravens, takes on the role of director of player personnel. It is also worth mentioning that Peters retained Martin Mayhew, the former Commanders GM, as a senior personnel executive/adviser.

Under the leadership of managing partner Josh Harris, the Commanders' front office changes seek to reverse the team's fortunes and bring about a performance and cultural turnaround. Harris took over the ownership of the franchise, alongside NBA legend Magic Johnson, nearly a year ago, hoping to steer the team in a new direction. However, due to the timing of the ownership transition, significant changes were not possible until now, on the eve of training camp.

Last season was a disappointing one for the Washington Commanders, as they finished with a dismal 4-13 record. However, it did provide them with the opportunity to secure the No. 2 overall pick in April's draft. With that pick, they selected quarterback Jayden Daniels, after the Chicago Bears took Caleb Williams.

In addition to the front office shake-up, the Commanders made several revisions to their roster this offseason. Notable veteran free-agent signings include nine-time Pro Bowl linebacker Bobby Wagner, center Tyler Biadasz, defensive lineman Dorance Armstrong, running back Austin Ekeler, safety Jeremy Chinn, and quarterback Marcus Mariota.

As the Commanders gear up for the upcoming season with a revamped front office and an influx of new talent, hopes are high for a fresh start and a bright future for the franchise.
