**Hokies' Coach Brent Pry Seeks Clarity on Controversial Call in Miami Loss**
Virginia Tech's head football coach, Brent Pry, remains perplexed by the officiating decisions that marred the conclusion of their recent 38-34 setback against Miami. Speaking at his weekly press conference on Tuesday, Pry expressed his lingering confusion over the ACC's handling of the game's final moments.
The controversy centers around a would-be game-winning touchdown catch by wide receiver DaQuan Felton, which was overturned by the officials. Pry revealed that he received neither explanation during the game nor any immediate clarity afterward. "I received no explanation on the field [and] no explanation in the locker room," Pry indicated, adding that the first he heard about the decision was through a statement released at 1:30 a.m., which he described as "confusing, at best."
It wasn't until Monday morning, after Pry solicited a response, that he was contacted by the head of ACC officials. The explanation given was that the touchdown was reversed due to a loose ball touched by a Miami defender who was out of bounds. However, Pry remains skeptical, noting that the provided video bore no new evidence. The officials' use of terms like "interpretation" and "hard to find" further fueled his doubts about the legitimacy of the conclusion.
Pry questioned both the decision to overturn the catch and the process followed by the ACC. He stated, "If it was ruled a catch, I don't see how you overturn it. There's no evidence. If it was ruled not a catch, I don't see how you overturn it. You can't see enough to tell. That's my take on it. I feel for our players, our fans. But we've turned the page."
The heartbreaking loss against Miami was a significant blow in what has already been a challenging season for Virginia Tech. After being considered a potential contender in the ACC preseason, the Hokies have faced several early setbacks, including defeats against Vanderbilt and Rutgers.
Looking ahead, Virginia Tech will aim to rebound as they travel to Palo Alto to compete against Stanford on Saturday. The game, scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET on the ACC Network, provides an opportunity for the Hokies to even out their season record at 3-3 and improve to 1-1 in ACC play.
