In a shocking turn of events, a Virginia man has been apprehended and charged for making online threats to kill Vice President Kamala Harris, as well as other public officials including President Joe Biden and FBI Director Christopher Wray. The suspect, identified as Frank Lucio Carillo, was taken into custody after the US District Court for the Western District of Virginia issued the arrest warrant on August 2.
According to court filings, Carillo intentionally threatened to take the life of Vice President Harris and inflict bodily harm upon her. These threats were made through multiple posts on the social media platform GETTR, with one particularly disturbing comment stating, "Kamala Harris needs to be put on fire alive. I will do it personally if no one else does it. I want her to suffer a slow agonizing death." These alarming remarks were posted on July 27, shortly after it became apparent that Harris would likely be the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee for 2024, potentially replacing President Biden.
As part of the ongoing investigation, FBI agents executed a search warrant at Carillo's residence in Winchester, Virginia, where they recovered a rifle and a handgun. During the search, Carillo allegedly admitted to an FBI officer that he was responsible for the threatening online posts. The suspect is now scheduled to appear in court on Monday morning for an initial hearing.
It is worth noting that these threats come in the wake of a recent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. The alarming nature of these incidents underscores the importance of continuous vigilance to protect the safety and security of high-profile public officials.
The FBI's Phoenix office initiated the investigation after receiving information about potential threats Carillo had made against a Maricopa County official. This discovery led to the uncovering of the threats against Vice President Harris and other public figures, prompting the swift arrest and legal action against Carillo.
As the country continues to grapple with ongoing security concerns and the safeguarding of public officials, law enforcement agencies remain dedicated to thoroughly investigating any potential threats and taking swift action to maintain the safety of those serving in prominent positions.
These incidents serve as a reminder of the vital role that online platforms play in disseminating information and the responsibility that individuals have in exercising caution and promoting a safe digital environment. Threats and harmful rhetoric, especially those directed towards public figures, will not be tolerated, and individuals who engage in such behavior will be held accountable under the law.
