**Virginia Au Pair Pleads Guilty to Manslaughter in Double Murder Case**
In a significant development, a Virginia au pair has admitted guilt to charges of manslaughter linked to the 2023 deaths of her employer's wife and another man. On Tuesday, Juliana Peres Magalhaes entered her plea, potentially facing up to 10 years of imprisonment for her role in the tragic events.
The case also involves her employer, Brendan Banfield, who was charged with murder last month despite Magalhaes’s arrest and charges a year prior. Prosecutors revealed that Magalhaes and Banfield began an affair in August 2022. By autumn that year, Banfield started discussing his intent to eliminate his wife, Christine Banfield, according to a plea agreement obtained by ABC News.
Over subsequent months, Banfield allegedly developed a plot to carry out his plans while Magalhaes, despite expressing hesitation and disbelief in Banfield’s resolve, remained entangled in the scheme, prosecutors noted.
The plea agreement detailed that Banfield created a profile on FetLife, a sexual fetish website, and made contact with Joe Ryan. Banfield then had Magalhaes impersonate Christine Banfield to arrange a meeting with Ryan at their home under the pretense of engaging in sexual activities that included restraints.
Upon Ryan's arrival in February 2023, Banfield allegedly shot him in the head and subsequently murdered his wife by stabbing. Magalhaes was also implicated in shooting Ryan, as stated by the prosecutors. Following the incident, Magalhaes called 911, feigning a scenario where Ryan was depicted as an intruder.
Initially facing second-degree murder charges for Ryan’s death, Magalhaes's plea deal reduced her charge to manslaughter. Her sentencing is slated for March 21, following Banfield’s trial scheduled for February.
