**Usha Vance Keeps Up with Son's Mythology Passion on Campaign Trail**
Usha Vance, wife of Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance, has found a unique way to connect with her son while supporting her husband on the campaign trail. She carries an 800-page copy of The Iliad, driven by her seven-year-old son Ewan's fascination with Greek mythology. According to NBC News, Ewan has developed an intense interest in classic epics, including Homer's The Iliad and The Odyssey. "Our son decided he was obsessed with mythology," Usha shared, explaining her decision to dive into The Iliad to keep up with him.
Usha and JD Vance, who have been married since 2014, have three children together: two-year-old Mirabel, four-year-old Vivek, and seven-year-old Ewan. The Vance family’s campaign trail activities often feature Usha engrossed in various novels. In addition to The Iliad, she has been seen with Tana French's *In the Woods* and Anthony Doerr's *Cloud Cuckoo Land*.
Usha’s role extends beyond family support; she also serves as an advisor and companion to JD during his busy campaign schedule. Her insights have proven invaluable, especially during crucial preparations, such as for the debate against Kamala Harris's running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. Usha, who graduated with an undergraduate degree in history from Yale, provides a unique blend of personal and intellectual support.
Reflecting on her contributions, Usha expressed to NBC News how having her around positively impacts JD’s campaign. "I think it makes him all the more enthusiastic to do it," she stated. She highlighted the importance of having someone to converse with about both campaign-related and unrelated topics. Her perspective as both his wife and best friend offers JD a distinct and supportive viewpoint.
Meanwhile, the Democratic campaign trail has seen Gwen Walz, Governor Tim Walz’s wife, actively participating as well. She has been vocal about her opposition to the Republican ticket's stance on issues like abortion and IVF.
