Irvine, California - Tragedy struck on Thursday afternoon as a UPS driver was shot and killed while sitting in his delivery truck at an industrial park in Irvine. The victim has been identified as 50-year-old Expedito Cuesta De Leon of Aliso Viejo, according to the Orange County coroner's office.

Authorities swiftly launched an investigation into the incident and identified the suspect as 46-year-old Rhean Fontanoza, also of Aliso Viejo. Fontanoza was taken into custody after a prolonged standoff with the police, which ended with a dramatic arrest on Santiago Canyon Road. The motive behind the shooting is still under investigation.

According to witnesses and surveillance footage, Fontanoza was seen in a silver Honda Ridgeline four-door truck, pulling up alongside the UPS truck before fleeing towards Jeronimo. Police have stated that the shooting does not appear to be a robbery and believe that the victim was specifically targeted.

The Irvine Police Department responded to reports of multiple gunshots at the industrial park near the intersection of Chrysler and Bendix at around 3 p.m. The area was quickly secured as officers launched a manhunt for the suspect.

Hours later, an armored police presence was observed surrounding a silver pickup truck on Santiago Canyon Road near Chapman Avenue, confirming its relation to the ongoing investigation. Around 6:15 p.m., officers deployed tear gas into the cab of the truck, leading to a confrontation with an individual in the rear passenger seat. After a brief struggle, officers apprehended Fontanoza and took him into custody.

Although the motive for the shooting remains unknown, police have revealed that Fontanoza and De Leon were acquaintances. Investigators are now delving into their relationship to shed light on what could have led to this tragic act.
