In a stunning act of bravery, a female University of Chicago student successfully fought off an armed robber, managing to disarm him during the confrontation. The heroic incident took place on Wednesday when three students from the university were held up at gunpoint, just moments apart.

The 21-year-old economics senior, identified only as Madelyn, shared her harrowing experience with NBC Chicago. As she noticed a man wearing a ski mask approaching her, she tried to keep walking, but soon found herself engaged in a tussle with the assailant. Surveillance footage showed that Madelyn frantically glanced around, seemingly hoping for someone nearby to intervene. Shockingly, a male student sitting just feet away opted to watch rather than offer assistance.

Recalling the encounter, Madelyn stated that the suspect was attempting to grab her phone while she struggled to keep it out of his reach. In an extraordinary turn of events, she managed to remove the magazine from the assailant's firearm and promptly tossed it into a nearby bush. However, in the chaos of the moment, Madelyn admitted that she was not fully aware of what she had grabbed.

Although the robber ultimately made off with Madelyn's phone, both the device and the magazine were later recovered by the police. In a separate incident just five minutes prior, two other students from the University of Chicago were robbed by four armed suspects who fled the scene in a black Infiniti, according to the University of Chicago Police Department.

While university police investigate the first incident, Madelyn's case is being handled by the Chicago Police Department, as reported by WGN News. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in either robbery, as confirmed by campus officials.

Responding to the frequent safety alerts that students receive, Madelyn expressed her disbelief at finding herself in such a situation. She explained to WGN News that while she had always felt safe on campus, the prevalence of such incidents made it troubling and desensitizing.

As of Friday morning, no arrests had been made in connection with either robbery. The university and local authorities continue to work diligently to ensure the safety of their students and bring the perpetrators to justice.
