In a heart-wrenching 911 call obtained from the city officials, Armando Ramos, the uncle of the Uvalde, Texas, school shooter, made a desperate plea to the police, begging them to let him talk his nephew down. According to the call, Ramos believed that his nephew, Salvador Ramos, would listen to him and possibly surrender peacefully. The call was made shortly after the shooting rampage at Robb Elementary School that claimed the lives of 19 students and two teachers.

In the emotional call, Ramos, his voice cracking, expressed his hope that his nephew would stand down or take any action to turn himself in. He informed the dispatcher that Salvador had stayed with him in his bedroom the night before the tragic incident. Salvador had confided in him about being upset because his grandmother was bothering him.

Filled with fear and urgency, Ramos pleaded, "Oh my god, please, please don't do anything stupid. I think he's shooting kids." However, his plea failed to prevent the devastating outcome.

The 911 call was released as part of a vast collection of recordings and transcripts made public by city officials, following a legal battle initiated by news organizations, including the Associated Press. Concerns were raised regarding the delayed law enforcement response, as it took nearly 70 minutes for approximately 400 officers to confront the gunman.

The delayed response to the school shooting has been heavily criticized, with multiple federal and state investigations revealing significant flaws in training, communication, leadership, and technology. Questions were raised about whether the officers prioritized their own lives over the safety of the children and teachers at the school.

As a result of the investigations, two responding officers, former Uvalde school Police Chief Pete Arredondo and former school officer Adrian Gonzales, now face criminal charges of child abandonment and endangerment. Families of the victims, who have long sought accountability for the slow police response, still press for more officers to be held responsible.

In addition to the criminal charges, families of the victims have pursued legal action against law enforcement, social media platforms, online gaming companies, and the gun manufacturer responsible for producing the rifle used in the shooting.

The tragic event at Robb Elementary School on May 24, 2022, remains one of the deadliest school shootings in U.S. history. The release of the 911 call and other documents aims to shed light on the failures that occurred in Uvalde, Texas, and bring about a greater sense of transparency and justice for the affected families.
