In a fierce battle in the Kursk region, Ukrainian forces have successfully repelled an assault by a Russian paratrooper unit, inflicting heavy losses on the Russian troops. The Ukrainian Defense Forces, determined to defend their positions, thwarted Russia's desperate attempts to dislodge them from the strategically important region.

According to reports from the Communications Department of Ukraine's Airborne Assault Forces on Telegram, on September 13, Russia deployed a substantial military presence consisting of 14 units, including two tanks, eleven amphibious assault vehicles, and one armored personnel carrier against Ukrainian paratroopers. However, the Ukrainian forces valiantly fought back, managing to repel the attack after several hours of intense fighting.

The Ukrainian report claims that the Russian losses were significant, including five amphibious assault vehicles, one tank, one armored personnel carrier, and "several dozen" Russian soldiers killed in action. The remaining Russian fighters, according to the report, quickly retreated from the battlefield.

Although the video released by the Ukrainian forces depicting the battle and the successful defense could not be independently verified by the Kyiv Post, footage shows Ukrainian paratroopers using FPV drones to target and destroy Russian amphibious vehicles. Additionally, the video highlights Ukrainian forces launching an attack on a building where Russian soldiers were concentrated, resulting in one Russian soldier being injured.

"The rest of the surviving Russian fighters showed a clean pair of heels," the report stated, alluding to their swift retreat from the area. The military operation showcased the strength and determination of the Ukrainian forces, who held their ground against the Russian aggression.

Meanwhile, British intelligence revealed that Russia has been launching offensive operations in the Kursk region, seeking to regain control over the territory held by Ukraine since mid-August 2024. Russian troops, including units of the Airborne Forces and Marines, have launched attacks on Ukrainian positions in the western part of the region, reportedly recapturing several villages.

However, the Russian counterattack seems to have lost its initial momentum, as Ukrainian forces are now attempting to break through in response. Videos posted by the Khorne Group, operating within Ukraine's 116th Separate Mechanized Brigade, show Ukrainian armored vehicles moving through what is alleged to be Russia's Kursk region.

Ukraine's expanded foothold along the 38H-052 HWY axis, along with reports of special operations forces operating east of 38H-589, threatens Russian ground lines of communication and supply (GLOCS). In a bid to isolate a large pocket formed near the Seym River, Ukrainian forces aim to split it into two sections, potentially trapping up to 1,000 Russian troops.

While the exact size of the Ukrainian force remains uncertain, defense analyst Chuck Pfarrer suggests that it could range from a battalion to a brigade, or even the spearhead of multiple brigades. The ongoing offensive, launched by Ukrainian forces into Russian territory on August 6, has been characterized by targeted attacks on bridges and pontoon crossings over the Seym River.
