In a groundbreaking development that pushes the boundaries of modern warfare, Ukraine's Armed Forces have unveiled two remarkable advancements in deadly drone technology. These recent innovations, revealed through videos circulating on social media, have captured the attention of experts and raised concerns about the evolving nature of conflict.

The first development centers around the enigmatic "dragon drones" that have been making waves since their emergence on September 2. Footage showcased these drones releasing what appears to be fiery, white-hot metal onto a treeline in an undisclosed battleground. Although no troops can be seen in the videos, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry officially confirmed their forces' involvement in this striking new arsenal.

Referred to as thermite dropping drones, these unmanned aircraft continue to swiftly proliferate among various drone units in Ukraine. Though the exact nature of the munitions utilized by these drones has not been confirmed, credible reports suggest they are equipped with thermite, a highly potent substance capable of dispersing thousands of tiny pieces of molten metal. The burning temperature of this molten metal exceeds a scorching 2,000 degrees Celsius, making it a devastating tool of destruction.

Human Rights Watch has highlighted the grave risks associated with exposure to such munitions, including extensive and excruciating burns necessitating painful treatment. Additionally, victims may suffer respiratory damage from inflamed airways and toxic fumes, infection, extreme dehydration, and even organ failure. The use of these thermite drones raises ethical concerns surrounding their potential impact on civilian populations.

The second innovation, introduced through a video released by the Wild Hornets—a volunteer group supporting Ukraine's armed forces—introduces the Hornet Queen, an FPV drone equipped with automatic weapons. In a remarkable combat deployment, this cutting-edge drone targeted a position held by Russian forces, indicating its potential effectiveness on the battlefield.

Experts have weighed in on these developments, with three weapons specialists providing their insights. They pointed out that the thermite drones hold significant impact, as they possess the ability to defoliate vast areas, dismantling Russian concealment and cover. The widespread deployment of these drones across various major sectors suggests a concerted effort to develop and employ these technologies.

With the approach of autumn, the timing of Ukraine's deployment of thermite drones appears strategic, taking advantage of the current conditions with dry grass and foliage. However, it is important to note that once wetter weather arrives, the fires caused by these drones may be less likely to spread easily.

Furthermore, experts believe that the thermite delivery drones could function as effective force-multipliers, driving enemy forces from their positions, denying territories, or creating smokescreens in hard-to-cover areas.

As these cutting-edge drones redefine the landscape of warfare, questions surrounding their proper use, the potential for collateral damage, and the ethical implications of such advancements loom large. It remains to be seen how these developments will shape the future of conflict and international regulations governing their use.
