**U.S. Seeks China's Help to Prevent North Korean Troops from Aiding Russia in Ukraine**

American state agencies have determined that China is uneasy about the increasingly close ties between Russia and North Korea. In response, the U.S. State Department has addressed concerns about North Korean troop activities with Chinese diplomats, hoping to exploit this tension.

Recent discussions between President Xi Jinping of China and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un highlight the historical alliance and strong economic and military partnership between the two nations. Despite this, the U.S. believes China is apprehensive about North Korea's military involvement with Russia, especially given the potential for Europe to become more involved in East Asian security matters.

In recent days, the Biden administration has communicated directly with Chinese officials regarding North Korean troops potentially aiding Russia in Ukraine. These conversations are aimed at leveraging China's discomfort with the strengthening Russia-North Korea cooperation.

On Thursday, North Korea's launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile—its first in almost a year—amplified global concerns. American administration officials discussed this and other issues directly with Chinese representatives, with high-level meetings taking place at the residence of Ambassador Xie Feng in Washington.

Additionally, Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke with Andriy Yermak, a senior Ukrainian official, about ongoing diplomatic efforts involving China and other international partners. The U.S. hopes that by engaging China, it can curb North Korea's support for Russia and mitigate further destabilization in Eastern Europe.
