Two Pedestrians Killed and Several Injured in Hit-and-Run Crash in Clinton County

In a tragic incident, a hit-and-run crash on Saturday claimed the lives of at least two pedestrians and left 13 others injured in Clinton County. The Clinton County Sheriff's Office reported on Sunday that a 35-year-old woman, believed to be the driver responsible for the crash, had been arrested and was currently detained at the county jail.
The fatal crash occurred around 6:25 p.m. on South Wacousta Road near Corrison Road in Watertown Township, a semi-rural area located approximately 10 miles northwest of Lansing. At the time of the incident, a group of 15 people, ranging from toddlers to senior citizens, were walking along the shoulder of the roadway when a vehicle struck them before fleeing the scene, as stated by the Clinton County deputies.
Tragically, two individuals were pronounced dead at the scene, and emergency services swiftly transported the 13 injured victims to nearby hospitals. The extent of their injuries varied, with some suffering from minor injuries, while others were in critical condition, facing life-threatening injuries.
The Clinton County Sheriff's Office has not yet released the identities and ages of the deceased individuals. However, WILX Channel 10 reported that one of the injured victims, a child, succumbed to their injuries at a hospital, although this information has not yet been confirmed by the authorities.
Following the hit-and-run, deputies managed to apprehend the suspected driver several miles away. The driver, who hails from the vicinity of Perrinton, a village approximately 9 miles southwest of Ithaca, is believed to have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
The Clinton County Sheriff's Office received assistance from various agencies throughout the investigation, including police departments from DeWitt, DeWitt Township, and Bath Township, as well as firefighters from Delta Township, Lansing, and Lansing Township. Emergency medical workers from Mercy Ambulance, Clinton Area Ambulance, Grand Ledge Ambulance, and Portland Ambulance were also on-site to provide vital medical aid.
Additionally, Michigan State Police, the Clinton County Road Commission, Clinton County Victim Support, Clinton County Emergency Management, and Clinton County Central Dispatch contributed to the coordinated response to the tragic incident.
The hit-and-run crash remains under investigation as authorities work diligently to uncover further details surrounding the incident.
