In a shocking turn of events, two men are now facing federal charges in connection with the abduction and fatal shooting of Katherine Guerrero, a Homestead woman in Seminole County, Florida. Guerrero, who had moved to the United States from the Dominican Republic five years ago, was found dead inside her burned SUV in Osceola County, where she had been shot to death.
One of the suspects, Giovanni Crespo Hernandez, 27, turned himself into Seminole County deputies on Monday for narcotics-related offenses, while his partner had already been arrested on drug trafficking charges. Authorities believe Crespo Hernandez was the last person to speak with Guerrero before her disappearance, as evidenced by cellphone records and a video call where an individual identifying himself as "Gio" was captured.
Seminole County Sheriff Dennis Lemma revealed during a news conference that Guerrero's husband is no longer cooperating with investigators, and her brother has been caught lying multiple times. Detectives attempted to interview Crespo Hernandez last week, but he fled his residence with his girlfriend, leading federal agents to raid their home. The raid yielded the discovery of fentanyl, Rolex watches, cash exceeding $10,000, two firearms, and a concealed compartment in another vehicle parked outside.
Simultaneously, Crespo Hernandez's girlfriend, identified as Monicsabel Soto, was apprehended in Osceola County while allegedly attempting to acquire three kilograms of cocaine. In addition to Crespo Hernandez, another individual named Jordanish Torres Garcia, 28, was also arrested on drug charges and identified as a person of interest in Guerrero's death. Lemma confirmed that Torres Garcia now faces federal charges, including armed carjacking resulting in death.
Investigators believe Torres Garcia was the suspect seen in the carjacking captured on cellphone video. The video showed a suspect holding a gun at Guerrero, forcing her to drive off while a green Acura trailed behind. Lemma asserted that the motive behind the crime revolves around drugs and money.
Relatives of Guerrero informed authorities that she was en route to Central Florida to visit family when she was forcefully taken. Her charred body was discovered the next day inside her burning vehicle at a construction site in Osceola County, alongside numerous shell casings.
During the press conference, Lemma also announced the arrest of Kevin Ocasio Justiniano, 28, believed to have been present in the green Acura during the carjacking and suspected to be the driver on the night of Guerrero's murder. Ocasio Justiniano is now in the process of being extradited to Seminole County to face charges.
Authorities revealed that Crespo Hernandez had been previously targeted in a Homeland Security investigation in 2020, resulting in the seizure of over $330,000. Detectives described him as a known member of a Drug Trafficking Organization (DTO) in the central Florida area, with a significant criminal history. He is also considered a person of interest in several home invasions and homicide investigations.
While there have been multiple arrests of persons of interest, no formal charges have been brought forth in Guerrero's murder. The Seminole County Sheriff's Office urged anyone with information to contact them.
This case has shed light on the dangerous consequences of drug trafficking and the devastating impact it can have on individuals and their families. The investigation continues as law enforcement strives to bring justice for Katherine Guerrero and her loved ones.
