Week 12 of the college football season was filled with surprises and upsets, leading to significant shifts in the rankings. The previously undefeated No. 6 BYU Cougars suffered a defeat against Kansas, leaving only three unbeaten teams in the FBS. This loss places BYU in a precarious position, needing crucial wins against their upcoming opponents to stay in contention for the Big 12 title game.

Georgia secured a much-needed victory over Tennessee, bolstering their chances for a College Football Playoff appearance. However, injuries have plagued the Bulldogs, particularly depleting their roster depth. With non-SEC games remaining against UMass and Georgia Tech, Georgia must focus on staying healthy as they eye a spot in the top 12.

Oregon managed to escape with a narrow 16-13 victory over Wisconsin, thanks to a fourth-quarter comeback. Despite the win, Oregon continues to struggle against the run, ranking 71st nationally in EPA run defense. As they look towards potential playoff adversaries, shutting down the opposing team’s rushing attacks will be essential for their championship aspirations.

Ohio State's defense has shown resilience since their loss to Oregon, holding opponents to under 20 points in their recent games. However, the Buckeyes need to tighten their third-down defense as they prepare to face Indiana, which boasts a high third-down conversion rate. The performance of Ohio State's veteran defensive line will be key against Indiana's quarterback Kurtis Rourke.

The Texas Longhorns managed to fend off Arkansas, keeping their hopes alive for a pivotal showdown with Texas A&M. Although their vertical passing game struggled, Texas' defense was dominant, severely limiting Arkansas' offensive production. Upcoming games against Kentucky and the Aggies will be critical for Texas' SEC championship game hopes.

Indiana, leading the nation in scoring margin, faces a stern test against Ohio State. Although undefeated at 10-0, the Hoosiers' offensive line showed vulnerability against Michigan, raising concerns ahead of their matchup with the Buckeyes. Indiana’s ability to hold the line of scrimmage will be crucial in their quest to remain unbeaten.

Penn State displayed dominance against Purdue but needs sharper red zone efficiency to sustain their playoff run. In their loss to Ohio State, missed red zone opportunities were detrimental, highlighting a key area for improvement.

Alabama coasted to an easy victory over FCS opponent Mercer, giving the Crimson Tide momentum heading into crucial SEC matchups. Keeping turnovers in check and maintaining defensive rigor will be pivotal as they prepare for games against Oklahoma and Auburn.

Ole Miss, fresh off a significant win against Georgia, faces a manageable yet crucial final stretch. With games against Florida and Mississippi State, the Rebels need to maintain discipline and prevent big plays to secure their playoff hopes.

Notre Dame extended their dominance over the ACC with a solid victory against Virginia, setting the stage for a vital game against undefeated Army. This clash could be a deciding factor for Notre Dame's playoff aspirations.

Meanwhile, Boise State inched closer to a first-round bye in the College Football Playoff following their convincing win over San José State. Star running back Ashton Jeanty continues to shine, breaking Boise State’s single-season rushing record and positioning himself as a Heisman Trophy contender.

As Week 12 reshuffles the college football landscape, teams at the top will need to tighten their play and capitalize on every opportunity if they hope to secure their spots in the postseason lineup.
