In a recent turn of events, supporters of former President Donald Trump have been baselessly accusing President Joe Biden of authorizing an assassination plot against Trump during the FBI's raid on Mar-a-Lago in 2022. The accusations come after unsealed documents revealed the discovery of more classified material at the former president's Palm Beach estate.

Despite Trump not being present at Mar-a-Lago on the day of the raid, Republicans have seized on standard language in FBI search warrants that authorize the use of deadly force in appropriate circumstances. They claim that Biden and the Department of Justice (DOJ) wanted Trump dead. Trump himself took to social media to share his disbelief, asserting that Biden is a threat to democracy and mentally unfit to hold office.

Trump's campaign fundraising email also alleged that he "nearly escaped death" and that Biden was ready to take him out, a claim that lacks evidence. Christina Bobb, an attorney for Trump who had previously asserted that there was no more classified material at Mar-a-Lago, expressed shock at the accusations, questioning the state of the United States.

Supporters in Congress, such as Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Rep. Paul Gosar, joined the chorus of baseless accusations, with Greene claiming that the Biden DOJ and FBI planned to assassinate Trump, while Gosar went as far as alleging that Biden ordered the hit on Trump at Mar-a-Lago.

However, it is important to note that the FBI's operations order for the search did not specifically grant authorization for the use of deadly force during the raid. The policy statement mentioned in Trump's attorney's filing is a standard reminder of agency policy given to law enforcement executing search warrants. The FBI emphasized that they followed standard protocol, including a policy statement limiting the use of deadly force.

Former FBI Assistant Director of Counterintelligence, Frank Figliuzzi, highlighted that every FBI operations order contains a reminder of their deadly force policy, even for search warrants. He stated that deadly force is only authorized if there is an imminent threat of death or serious physical injury.

Contrary to the accusations made by supporters, the raid on Mar-a-Lago was executed without incident, and no deadly force was used. The FBI took precautions to ensure a smooth operation and specifically chose a day when Trump was not present on the property, as explained by former FBI Assistant Director Steven D'Antuono during earlier congressional testimony.

Despite the lack of evidence and the FBI's adherence to standard procedures, Trump's victim complex and his supporters' inclination for spectacle continue to fuel unsubstantiated allegations. The baseless accusations against Biden only serve to deepen the political divide and undermine the credibility of legitimate concerns.
