**House Oversight Chair Subpoenas Biden's Former White House Physician**
House Oversight Chairman James Comer has issued a subpoena to Dr. Kevin O'Connor, former President Joe Biden's White House physician, insisting on a deposition set for later this month. The subpoena, a copy of which was provided to CNN, intensifies the Republican chairman's investigation into Biden's alleged mental decline and fitness for office.
Chairman Comer noted in the subpoena letter that Dr. O'Connor was not cooperating with the committee's initial voluntary request for a transcribed interview. According to the letter, counsel for O'Connor argued that he could not participate in the interview due to legal and ethical obligations, specifically citing "physician-patient privilege." Comer countered these arguments as lacking merit.
CNN sought a comment from Dr. O’Connor regarding the subpoena, but there has been no immediate response.
This move follows a memorandum issued by President Donald Trump in which he ordered an investigation into Biden's actions, particularly scrutinizing his use of an autopen. Trump’s memo pointed to Biden's supposed "cognitive decline." Responding to these assertions, Biden released a statement Wednesday evening dismissing the claims. "I made the decisions during my presidency. I made the decisions about the pardons, executive orders, legislation, and proclamations. Any suggestion that I didn't is ridiculous and false," Biden stated.
Chairman Comer's recent actions are part of a broader effort, as he has also sought interviews with nearly a dozen former key aides to President Biden, further intensifying the investigation into his mental fitness.
This unfolding scenario underscores the heightened political tensions and continuing partisan battles regarding the current and past presidents' conduct and capacity to govern.
