In a surprising turn of events, former President Donald Trump has reportedly shared his plan to end the ongoing war in Ukraine, albeit an unconventional one that may not sit well with the Ukrainian government. According to sources, Trump has privately discussed pressuring Ukraine to relinquish control over territories such as Crimea and the Donbas border region, ultimately handing them over to Russia. The Washington Post reveals that Trump believes both sides "want a way out" and suggests that certain regions in Ukraine would be open to joining Russia.

Displaying confidence in his ideas, Trump has even claimed that he could negotiate a peace deal within a mere 24 hours of being re-elected as president. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has categorically stated that he will not surrender any Ukrainian land. When asked about Trump's plan, a campaign representative remained tight-lipped but emphasized that "President Trump is the only one talking about stopping the killing."

This controversial proposal represents a significant departure from President Joe Biden's long-term plan of continuing military support for Ukraine. Foreign policy experts argue that such a move would only reward Russian President Vladimir Putin for invading Ukraine, undermining the principles upheld by the international community.

Even individuals close to Trump have expressed their concerns about his plan. Senator Lindsey Graham, who claims to have had extensive discussions with Trump on Ukraine, insists that Putin must face repercussions and cannot emerge as the victor in this situation. Graham suggests that Trump should consider advocating for Ukraine's inclusion in NATO, but admits that Trump has not shown much interest in the matter.

Former White House aide Michael Anton has shed some light on Trump's proposed plan, mentioning that it entails the ceding of Ukrainian territory in Crimea and Donbas to Russia, limiting NATO expansion, and encouraging Putin to reduce his reliance on China. This might involve offering some form of sanctions relief and increasing European cooperation. Yet, it is expected that Ukraine and its European allies will vehemently resist any deal with Moscow.

For Zelensky, agreeing to such a compromise would be seen as political suicide, warns Michael Kofman from the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. The Ukrainian president is likely to face immense opposition both domestically and from European allies if he were to entertain Trump's proposal.

It remains to be seen how this unexpected development will unfold and whether Trump's controversial plan will gain any traction. The Ukrainian government and international community will undoubtedly scrutinize these proposals closely, as they hold immense implications for the future resolution of the Ukraine war.
