**Trump Lauds Bret Baier's Harris Interview Amidst His Calls for Her Cognitive Test**
Former President Donald Trump has praised Fox News’ chief political anchor, Bret Baier, for his interview with Democratic 2024 presidential hopeful Kamala Harris. Trump asserted that Baier's questioning exposed Harris’s incompetence and repeated his demand for her to undergo a cognitive ability test.
Trump enthusiastically backed his campaign's view of the interview, describing it as disastrous for Harris. During the exchange, Harris and Baier had several contentious moments, particularly on the topic of immigration, where Harris asked, “May I finish responding to you?” when Baier interrupted.
Immediately following the broadcast, Trump’s advisers, including Stephen Miller and Steven Cheung, took to social media to criticize Harris’s performance. Cheung likened the interview to a catastrophic event, while Miller compared it to the sinking of the Titanic. Trump himself highlighted what he called Harris’s "TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME," claiming she was fixated on him rather than addressing other topics.
The Harris campaign, however, maintained a different perspective. Campaign spokesman Brian Fallon told Reuters that they met their objectives by reaching a typically unexposed audience and demonstrating Harris’s resilience against a combative interviewer. Fallon pointed out that many independents and moderate Republicans could be swayed by Harris, thus justifying their decision to appear on Fox News.
Baier stood by his interviewing tactics, noted on Fox News that Harris's late arrival required a more assertive approach to cover all necessary topics. In dialogue with conservative commentator Mark Levin, Baier explained his intention for a civil exchange but acknowledged the interview's time constraints and Harris’s preparation for viral moments rather than substantive policy discussion.
Concluding his feedback, Trump again congratulated Baier for what he called a tough but fair interview and reiterated his claim that Harris’s cognitive abilities should be tested for the nation's benefit.
