Former President Donald Trump revealed during an interview with host Sharyl Attkisson on the Full Measure television program that he will not seek another presidential term in 2028 if he loses the upcoming November election to Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee. Trump firmly stated that he does not see himself running again if he is unsuccessful in the upcoming election. His announcement comes at a pivotal moment in the 2024 presidential race that has been reshaped by President Joe Biden's unexpected withdrawal in July and a surge in Harris' popularity as the Democratic nominee.

A recent NBC News poll conducted from September 13 to 17 indicates a significant increase in Harris' favorability since becoming the Democratic nominee in August at the Democratic National Convention. The poll, which surveyed 1,000 registered voters nationally, shows Harris' favorability has risen by 16 points since July, marking an unprecedented climb for a major party presidential candidate over the poll's 35-year history. Harris currently holds a 48 percent positive score in the poll, with a 3-point net rating, reflecting a significant improvement from her previous -18 net rating in July.

On the other hand, Trump's net rating remains largely constant at -13, with 40 percent viewing him positively and 53 percent negatively. The stability in Trump's numbers, alongside Harris' surge in popularity, sets the stage for a highly competitive race in November. Despite Harris' notable improvement, the poll also highlights potential challenges for Democrats, with concerns around inflation, the cost of living, and the nation's trajectory prevalent among voters.

Independent voters have expressed concerns about Trump's age affecting his ability to serve as president if reelected in November. According to an Economist/YouGov survey, nearly a third of independent voters believe Trump's age will severely limit his capacity to fulfill his presidential duties. This sentiment is particularly relevant following Biden's exit from the race and his endorsement of Kamala Harris, who has garnered increased support, especially among younger voters. Age might play a crucial role in shaping the outcome of the upcoming election, with both Harris and Trump vying for Electoral College success in a race that is too close to call in key battleground states.
